Mats Sundin was the first European to be selected first overall in the NHL Entry Draft in 1989. Sundin is best known as a Toronto Maple Leaf where he was Team Captain for 11 years and is the current Leaf’s franchise record holder for most goals and most points. He finished his career with a “point-per-game” pace scoring 1,349 points in 1,346 games and is the first, and only, Swedish-born player to score 500 goals in the National Hockey League. Mats also won three gold medals at the IIHF World Championship and was the Captain of Team Sweden when they captured the 2006 Olympic Gold Medal. In 2012 he was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame, becoming only the second Swede behind the legendary Börje Salming to be indicted at that time, and in 2017 was named one of the “top 100 players in NHL history”
His latest accomplishment?? – he has just become a best-selling Author with his book “Home and Away” published by Simon and Schuster!!
